Code of Ethics

In our role in assisting in recruitment, training, and human resource administration, the CDSN adheres to and promotes the principles of the Direct Support Professionals Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics provides a critical building block for all of our programs.

Direct support workers perform critical work for people with developmental disabilities. These workers are often asked to serve as gatekeepers for people needing support in almost every aspect of their lives, including access to community, personal finances, hygiene, physical well-being, relationships, employment, and everyday choices. As a result of these work duties, support workers face ethical decisions on a daily basis, recognizing that a person’s entire life can change based on the quality of support that they provide.

The Code of Ethics was developed by a broad coalition of leading national provider, government, and academic organizations and individuals. The National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals describes the Code as a “a roadmap to assist us in staying the course of securing freedom, justice, and equality for all.”
